“Aadhivasams” performed for the Vigrahas to infuse cosmic energy through rituals described in our scriptures.
Adhivasams:
As the ritual part of the PranaPratishta, all the adhivasas are performed to induce cosmic energy to the Vigrahas. The Vigrahas bear a tremendous cosmic power through performance of Prana Pratishta. Worship of manifestation of Lord in the form of Vigrahas enables us to fulfill our wishes and achieve peace.
- Dhanyadhivasam: (Completed on Saturday April 20th 2013 from 3:30 to 5:30PM and Sunday April 21st from 10AM to 3PM).
Dhanyadhivasam is done prior to Maha Samprokshanam. During Dhanyadhivasam, the Vigrahas will be completely immersed in Dhanyams for one complete mandalam which is typically 41 to 48 days. Bhagavan is saluted through this ritual as „Vishwa-bhuk“, the protector of the Universe. The essence of the manthrams recited at this time is that the Lord is recognized as the Controller, Master and Consumer of the entire universe and pray to him for his satisfaction with the offering of Anna or Dhanyam. It states that the food is a form of nectar and is offered to the Lord as a form of complete surrender unto HIM.
- Ksheeradhivasam: (Wednesday, May 29, 2013, During the Afternoon session, 5 PM to 8 PM)
Ksheerabdivasam is the immersing the Vigraha of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy in milk. This signifies that before manifesting in the form of the Vigraha, Lord SrimanNarayana was in different state of being.
Lord Srimannarayana is also named by Alwars and puranas as Ksheerabdinathan. Further in the Mukundamala, SriKulashekara Alwar explains „ksheera saagara taranga sikara saara tarakita charu-murtaye“. Here the alwar experiences the Paramapadanathan At His Abode- The milky ocean as Ksheerabdinathan.
- Chayadhivaasam: (Thursday, May 30, 2013, During the Morning session, 8 AM to 12 Noon)
Chayadhivasam is a ritual in which the shadows of the Vigrahas are made to fall on water in a pot. In that water, pieces of darbha grass would have been placed (with chanting of appropriate Vedic hymns) twisted in particular fashion to form effigies of the appropriate deities. This is an alternative carried out when it is not possible to immerse the Vigrahas in running water all night. The ritual, in effect, represents cooling and purifying of the Vigrahas.
- Jaladivaasam: (Thursday, May 30, 2013, During the Afternoon session, 5 PM to 8 PM)
During Jaladhivasam, the Vigrahas are completely or partially immersed in water in a reclining position. This is done to emphasize centrality of water in the Vedas. Water is the essence of Jyothi or light. The essence of the mantras chanted during this ritual is that all entities including vital air, animals and food are a form of water. Water shines brilliantly by itself and cannot be ruled over by any other entity. Truth is also considered as a form of water. All the above facts help us to understand the significance of this ritual
- Sayanadhivasam: (Friday, May 31, 2013, During the Afternoon session, 5 PM to 8 PM)
This is very natural to Lord Sri Ranganatha. The Lord’s Yoga Nidhrai for Jagat Rakshanam is directly linked to Sayanadhivasam. Vigrahas are placed in a reclining position for this ritual. Shayana means bed. This bed is made up of multiple layers such as Paddy, Rice, Gingelly, Mustard and Dharbha. A ghada or khadi type of cloth is spread between each layer. The topmost layer is a silk cloth. Dwadhasha and Sribeeja Mantras are chanted. The shayana is used only in the afternoon of the day when the Bimbha is taken out of the Jaladhivasa and subjected to the rites of Netra Unmeelana, Bimbha Shodhana, Bimbha Shuddi kalasabhishekam and Alankara pooja.
- Pushpadhivasam: (Friday, May 31, 2013, During the Afternoon session, 5 PM to 8 PM)
Pushpadhivasam is done to induce softness to Moola Vigrahas by immersing them in flowers.
- Phaladivasam: (Friday, May 31, 2013, During the Afternoon session, 5 PM to 8 PM)
Phaladivasam is done to induce sweetness to Moola Vigrahas by immersing them in fruits.
